What was the first book you ever wrote?
My first book was "Bert and the Broken Teapot" under my maiden name Tish Sommers. It was based on a real story from my childhood when my kitten ran into the kitchen and I ran after her and knocked over my great grandmother's antique teapot. When my mother came in and saw the look on my face and all the broken glass she told me "You mean more to me than any old teapot."
I pitched the idea to the Book Department at Sesame Street and they asked "Could you make it a story for Bert?" In the book, Bert is helping David wait on customers and breaks his favorite teapot. David says "My friend Bert if more important to me than any teapot," just like my mother said to me.
